About me
Hi I'm Dean, I am licensed by the DVSA to give driving instruction and I am passionate about road safety.
I moved to Kendal in 1992 to start my first PE teaching job at Kirkbie Kendal School. I stayed there for almost 30 years. I was Head of PE until I retired from teaching in 2021 following a kidney transplant. Over the years, I worked with a huge number of young people, colleagues and trainee PE teachers who I trained through their PGCE PE qualification at KKS. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Carla (who is Deputy Head at KKS) since 2007; I am the proud dad to Ella and Jack and grandad to my fantastic grandson, Edward.
I have always had a passion for teaching and coaching. I still coach Rugby Union in a number of environments: Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC where I am lead coach for the current U15 team and Performance Director for the coaching side of the Mini & Youth section of the club; I am a Centre Manager and Lead Coach for Newcastle Falcons’ DPP rugby programme; and I am the Newcastle Falcons’ Cumbria Satellite Centre Manager.
I decided to train to become a driving instructor because I wanted a job where I could continue to work in a coaching and learning environment. There is nothing better than seeing someone make progress in their learning! I am a calm and relaxed type of person with a great deal of experience of working with young people and adults and so I thought that I would make a great Driving Instructor.
I chose to train with LDC because the LDC System of learning resonated greatly with me from my teaching days and from my current coaching roles. The system puts the learner at the centre of the learning process, something I have always tried to do. You can be assured the training I give will be of the highest standard. I appreciate that everybody is different and the LDC System allows for flexibility in lessons so that you learn to drive safely at a rate that suits you. I aim to make every lesson enjoyable and as productive as possible. The LDC System helps me to do that more effectively and it will help you to track and understand the progress that you are making and the skills that you are learning.
My lessons are always conducted in a calm, friendly and relaxed manner because making you, the pupil, feel at ease in the car will help you to relax and focus on the goals that we have decided upon for each lesson.
I hope that helps you to understand a little more about me. If you would like to make contact, please click the link to "Contact me"
